Reviews

Damon, Gene. "Lesbiana" Ladder, vol. 1, no. 7, April 1957, p. 14.

Another story of life in a sorority house with the inevitable schoolgirl "crush" on her room mate. However, the literature here is not so sensational as in most books of this theme. The problems of heterosexual love, as well as homosexual love, are equally well presented -- with understanding and sympathy.

A. Bannon. Odd Girl Out. “A confession of love – as shocking – and as honest – as SPRING FIRE”

Cover, Back Text

Beth was there when Laura arrived..She was the brain, the sparkle, the gay rebel voice of the sorority and, wonder of wonders, she chose Laura as her roommate. That was the way it began, the one up there at the pinnacle and the other, the lonely one, longing always to draw nearer and nearer. Suddenly the distance between them closed and they were alone on an island of forbidden bliss...Like the unforgettable SPRING FIRE, here is an urgent young first novel of emotions running wild - beyond the pale into the dark country of love that should never have been. -Back cover

Cover Art Description

Inside what seems to be a cavern, a redhead and a brunette can be seen in the center of the cover. The redhead is massaging the shoulders of the brunette, who lies on her stomach on a green blanket, head towards the front and left of the image. The blond is seen from her thighs up, leaned at a three-quarter angle towards the left of the image. She wears a pink sweater with the sleeves pulled up to her mid-forearms, and a brown skirt with a kilt pattern in gold. Her hair is tied in a pony tail, and her head is slightly tilted to her left as she looks at the brunette, whose hair seems to be at shoulder-length, and who is wearing a white blouse with sleeves rolled towards her elbow, and light brown trousers. Her right cheek rests on the back of her left hand. She wears a watch with a red wristband, and her gaze is slightly lowered. The scene is lit with hard light from the front left, and darkness is seen behind them.
