NODL Evaluation Report
"From start to finish the idea of sex in the lowest form is presented in many incidents. Every female character except the two youngest girls and the grandmother are portrayed as desiring this and most of the male characters are shown as equally as lustful. Two women, Paula and Valerie, value a normal life- Javka and Debby as a decen girl-hood."

She tasted every wanton pleasure and left nothing new beneath that burning sun. "Mlle. Torres is..a master craftsman in her treatment of desire." - The New York Times
Cover, Back Text
"Rodrigo's couch was red velvet...and the books that surrounded it designed to shock, to horrify, to stir the blood. At one time or another, that summer in Figueira, certain women made the journey to Rodrigo's house. There was Pascale, the sensualist, the creature made for love. There was Odile, her daughter, mouse-afraid but driven by the desire to know, at last. There was Ariane, the film beauty, hard-headed enough to pay the price of luxury. And while the women were thus occupied, their men were not idle...That summer Figueira was Eden for them, a handful of people marking time for two months, dancing a last passionate bacchanal beneath the blazing sun of Portugal...'Miss Torres is a very naughty Aphrodite presiding over a multitude of libidinous extravaganzas.'-Parade of Books" -Back cover
Cover Art Description
Single nude woman, seemingly sitting over her bent knees, in profile, is looking away from the reader. She has her right arm raised, palm up and relaxed. Her left side is seen, almost centered in the space, beneath what appear to be tall grasses bordering a body of water, such as a lake. Her eyes are closed, her nose touching her raised arm. Her hair seems to be tied up in a bun behind her head. Her left arm is stretched downwards behind her. There are yellow lines and dots of many colours drawn next to the book title, which is in the right of the image. A double-exposure makes part of the image look faded. The scene is lit from the left.
