Enough of sorrow

Enough of Sorrow by Jill Emerson (1965). The background is dark brown, with a rectangle containing the image, one-third from the top below the title. The partial face of a woman with brown eyes and bright red lipstick looks directly toward the reader through a slightly blurred window with water droplets. To the bottom centre, partially covering the main face, another figure of a brunette is seen, facing the reader, but with her eyes downcast. Her right arm is raised, bent at the elbow, with her hand buried in her long brown hair. She is wearing a dark brown slip covered by a translucent beige lounging gown. Her left shoulder is exposed. Her left hand is draped towards her right hip.
Karen's journey of self-discovery through love, lust, and alcohol.

Strange breed

Strange Breed front cover. Two women are on a bed, seemingly naked and partially covered with sheets. One, a redhead woman, is closest to the viewer and lies on her back, head toward the left of the image, with eyes closed, a smile, and her hands folded over her chest, under which a sheet covers the rest of her body. She seems to have both her knees bent. Her face is fully lit. The other woman, a brunette, is next to her in the background, her feet facing the opposite direction to that of the redhead's. Her torso is leaning on her elbows, which rest on her slightly bent knees. Her back faces the viewer in a three-quarter angle and is fully bare. A ray of light shines on it. Her legs are covered with a sheet from her hip down. Her face is bowed down with eyes open, also looking down. Her hair is partly tied up behind her nape. The scene is lit from the top right.

Women's barracks

Women's Barracks front cover. A blonde, seemingly sitting down, is shown, from the top of her back upwards, at a three-quarter angle and in profile, showing her right shoulder and part of her right arm and the top of her back. Her hair is tied up with a hair clip at the top of her head and flows down to her nape. A strap of her brassiere is visible over her right shoulder. Her head, turned to her right, partially faces the reader. Her eyes are looking down toward her right. What seems to be a khaki military garment is partially shown, wrinkled, behind her back. Behind the blonde, to the left of the image, stands a brunette in profile, also at a three-quarter angle towards the back of the image, facing left. She has on a khaki military shirt that partially hangs, disclosing her shoulders and the top of her back, and exposing the strap of her brassiere on her left side. She seems to be wearing a khaki skirt. Her hair is up and she holds a cigarette in her left hand, which she stares at. The scene is lit from the top left.
Women's Barracks by Tereska Torrės is credited as the first of the mid-century pulp paperbacks to feature a lesbian-themed cover and contain passages describing physical intimacy between two women.

Hired girl

Hire hand front cover. A redhead woman sits on a wooden chair in the ground-level rain porch of a wooden structure. She is sitting with her legs sprawled, wearing a knee-high pink dress with short sleeves and buttons, and a V-neck, and she is barefoot. The right sleeve of the dress hangs over her shoulder. Her right hand is on her inner right thigh, while her left hand seems to be gesturing from behind the back of the chair. Her head is tilted to her left and slightly bowed down, and her eyes look to her right. Behind her there is a curtained, glass-pane window and a door and, to her left, a wooden rocker can be partially seen. To the far left of the image, the head of a man staring at her with a frown is seen, at a three-quarters angle away from the reader. Only the collar of his shirt is partially visible. A wooden post stands vertically between both figures, and a weed grows at the edge of the wooden deck, on the barren ground. From the lit areas, it seems that the sun is fairly low on the horizon, shining on them from the front left.

To drown our lusts

To Drown Our Lusts front cover. The figures of two women, seen from their chests up, occupy most of the space. The one on the left is a brunette wearing a black, sleeveless top. Her hair is up and tied at the back of her head, and her right hand, wearing a ring with a stone or gem, is rested sideways on her chest. Her body is turned toward the left of the reader, in profile, and her head is turned towards the reader, tilted halfway downward. Her eyes look down toward the bottom of the image. Behind her is a blond woman with short, curly hair. Her torso faces the reader, but her head is turned and tilted slightly to the right of the reader. She has a slight smile on her lips, and her eyes look down at her left, away from the other woman. Her torso appears to be bare. The figures are photographically blended with one another in two places. The background is a mix of shades of orange, and the scene is lit in equally warm tonalities, mainly from the front left.

A paperback original. This book was published as a mass-market paperback without a hardcover printing.
