Dell Paperbacks’ original parent company Dell Publishing was well established as a pulp magazine and comic book publisher since the 1920s. Like other paperback publishers with roots in the pulp magazine industry, it focused mainly on mystery novels but branched out into different genres in the 1950s. In 1953 the company began publishing original paperbacks. Dell is now part of the Penguin Random House publishing company.
